Your First Visit

Welcome to the Om Organic Massage Collective

We are a group of professional, independent massage therapists. We believe everyone should have access to the powerful physical and emotional healing available through customized, holistic massage therapy. We are committed to providing a community-oriented, caring and professional massage experience, guided by your unique needs. If this is your first visit, or perhaps your first professional massage, we have provided a few guidelines to help you feel at ease, and gain the greatest benefit from your massage therapy.

Arrival

We recommend you arrive 15 minutes early for your first appointment. if you are running late: please call ahead to let us know. We understand that sometimes being late is unavoidable and we will do our best to accommodate you. however, depending on circumstances, we may need to shorten or reschedule your service.  upon arrival, you will be greeted by your personal massage therapist. She will provide you with a client intake form to complete. The health information you provide  (including the areas of your body which are tense, sore or recently injured) will ensure your massage is tailored specifically to your needs. Your therapist will go over this form with you before beginning your massage, ensuring that she is aware of your health history and your preferences for the massage.

The Massage Experience

Your comfortable, healing massage table awaits you, dressed with a thick sheepskin cover and warming blanket, fresh clean sheets and pillows/leg-bolsters for added support.  Your massage therapist will guide you into your peaceful treatment room, show you the seating area for your personal belongings and explain which position to lie on the table.  The best way to receive a massage is with the body completely unclothed, however if this arrangement is uncomfortable for you, you may choose to wear underwear. Your therapist will then leave the room and wait outside for a few minutes while you undress to your level of comfort and get on the massage table underneath the top sheet & blanket. Before re-entering the room, your massage therapist will knock on the door to ensure you are ready. As your massage progresses, your therapist will always keep you covered with the sheet & blanket, only uncovering the part of the body she is working on, ensuring that your modesty is respected at all times.

Relax and Breathe

As the massage begins, allow your eyes to close and to relax as completely as possible. Focus your attention on your breathing, which should be slow, deep and even. When your therapist’s hands locate areas of pain or tension in your body, consciously try to relax those areas. as you inhale softly and deeply, visualize the breath flowing to the tense area and relaxing it. as you fully exhale, visualize the tension leaving the body with the breath. allow the therapist to move your limbs into various positions. be limp, like a rag doll, and do not try to help move your arms, legs or head. please feel free to speak up if anything the therapist does is too painful or ticklish, or uncomfortable in any way.

General conversation during a massage can sometimes be distracting and prevent you from relaxing to your fullest. However, you may feel the need to talk for a while to wind down, or as a body-mind release. as much as possible, allow your conversation to relate to the massage, or to the feelings and emotions you are releasing. many people fall asleep during a massage, an indication that the body and mind are releasing stress and tension. your therapist will gently wake you when it is time to turn over or when the massage is finished.

Very often, as the body releases tension during a massage, the mind will release emotion. If you suddenly feel sad, angry or joyful, do not be alarmed. Allow yourself to express these feelings by crying or laughing. At the very least, feel free to sigh with relaxation or hum with pleasure.

Contrary to the common notion in our society about massage, It is an ancient healing art and not a sexual service. the body might become aroused as you experience the pleasure of total relaxation. however, sexual behavior during the massage is inappropriate and will result in immediate termination of the session.

Customize your...

* Pressure

You can ask for light, medium, firm or a combination of pressures during your massage. If you have requested a massage style that you find does not provide the right amount of pressure, your massage therapist will happily change to an alternate massage style.

* Areas of Focus (full body or area-specific)

Depending on your needs, your massage therapist will either provide a customized full-body massage or focus just on the specific parts of your body that you have requested.

End of Session

Upon completion of your session, your therapist will communicate she is leaving the room to allow you to re-dress and to come out when you are ready. Once outside the room, your therapist will greet you with a cup of water and will instruct you on any relevant stretches or postural tips to assist you in maintaining your well-being until your next massage. Your therapist will assist you with final payment and rescheduling of your next massage. We encourage you to drink plenty of water after your massage and look forward to seeing you again soon!

We hope that your massage is both enjoyable and beneficial, and that this experience will be the beginning of a lifelong practice to help you enjoy the best possible health and relaxation.
