Pregnancy - The Personal Journey
the challenges, lessons and joys that pregnancy and child-birthing bring can be truly life-changing. customized bodywork with a caring supportive therapist can help you understand and trust in the wisdom of your body and in the beautiful, natural process that birthing truly is.

Bodywork During Pregnancy
There is no other time in which bodywork can have as important a role than during pregnancy. Consider that your hormones are changing rapidly, your abdominal skin/tissue is stretching, your body is steadily gaining weight, retaining fluid , increasing in blood volume and shifting its center of gravity, thus making normal every-day tasks increasingly difficult. It is not surprising that many pregnant women feel physically uncomfortable and emotionally depleted. Massage during pregnancy can help you feel at ease in your body and your mind.

Your Massage Session
Bodywork during pregnancy has a profound physical affect - you will be surprised how quickly your muscles respond, and how great you feel after just one session. All sessions are in a side-lying position with leg completely supported with a pregnancy bolster, and a limited time on your back. Depending on your specific aches and pains, the session can either be full-body (back, arms, abdomen, legs, neck, head) or we can focus just on the areas you like - and avoid any areas you do not wish to be massaged. Any massage performed on the abdominal/stomach area is very gentle, working mostly around the outside, with focus on relieving digestion issues, helping to soften connective tissue preventing stretch marks and discomfort, and bringing a connection to the emotional center.  We welcome questions and feedback before, during and after your massage session. our intention is to create a safe space for you to gain the optimum relaxation and relief from pain.

Note: We do not recommend lying prone (face-down) to receive a Pregnancy Massage, even while supported with a pregnancy pillow. This position does not provide adequate support for inguinal ligaments and can place undue pressure on your belly, over-accentuating the lumbar curve in your back, which can cause pain/complication.

Massage During All Three Trimesters

1st Trimester: week 1 - 12. Gentle soothing strokes help to reduce stress, ease nausea, headaches and promote relaxation. With so many changes occurring in your body, this is a wonderfully beneficial time to begin receiving pregnancy massage.

2nd Trimester: week 13 - 27. Deeper, more focused work is possible to address specific bodily aches and pains, and provide relief for breathing and digestive discomfort as baby grows.

3rd Trimester: week 28 - 40. Deeper work continues, with focus on individual requirements, helping abdominal connective tissue naturally soften and stretch, alleviating pelvis/hip congestion, and allowing key relaxation/meditative time-out for mom as due-date approaches.
